After unusually generous rainfall this year, here in our semi-desert town and surrounds, we are experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime bloom of veld flowers. The scale, the intensity, and the variety of these flowers has left me feeling flummoxed by an inadequacy of perception- it's as if I don't know how to see what I'm seeing.
Nudged by this curious state, and inspired by Georgia OKeefe's philosophy, this upcoming workshop is an exploration into what it takes 'to see a flower'. What can nature teach us about our relationship with time, and about perception and attention? We'll work with a variety of mediums and mindful drawing exercises that take inspiration from the natural environment, both in studio and in the local landscape.
